“Avodah is when you build Camp Tavor with your own hands!” — Josh

Avodah means labor,

and it is an important part of taking care of camp. By taking an active role in the care of our grounds and community, chanichim (campers) and tzevet (staff) don’t just talk about Jewish values — we live them.

Everyone has an assignment, working in teams to make sure all of the important tasks are seen to every day. It means weeding and planting in the gan (garden), preparing safe places around camp to have a medura (campfire), or building new benches for the chadar ochel (dining hall). Each morning’s one-hour avodah (labor) session helps us grow stronger with our camp and within ourselves by honoring the dignity of work.

What will you do?

Each camper chooses a work project at the beginning of his or her session — gardening, animal care, woodworking, painting, and cleaning are a few of the options — and will work as part of a team throughout the session.
