Tavor is a small and intimate place where youth leaders direct camp activities and campers learn that fun can be meaningful. With the help of nurturing tzevet (staff) members, new campers at Tavor soon come to recognize everyone in camp and form lasting relationships with many of them.
Executive Director and On-Site Manager
Shelley Goldwater has been our on-site manager for more than 8 years. Last year she was named Executive Director as well. Shelley is the behind-the-scenes coordinator at camp, making sure that campers are safe, the facility is operating well, and the many staff members are fully trained and functioning effectively.
Assistant Director
Mike Rocklin is the Assistant Director for Camp Tavor. He
is on site in the summer, lending behind-the-scenes assistance
to Shelly. Mike will be hosting special events at camp to
help families and regions learn more about Camp Tavor. During
the rest of the year, you can find Mike traveling our area talking
to everybody who will listen, about the wonders of Camp Tavor. Here

Bio
Summer Leadership (Maskirut)
Three staff members are selected each summer to provide leadership, arrange and monitor logistics; and research, develop and implement our educational theme for the summer. We also have an emissary from Israel who develops and implements our Hebrew program.
Rosh Machaneh (Summer Director)
Our Rosh Machaneh assists in hiring and assigning counselors,
arranges the daily schedules, provides training and helps to keep
each day functioning safely and on-schedule
Sarah Brown (Brownie) is our Rosh for Summer 2008. Here is Brownie's bio.
Merkez Techni (Logistics
Director)
The Merkez Tachni monitors the logistics of camp by ordering supplies, planning tiyulim (trips), organizing work projects, organizing the locations and supplies for programming, and making sure laundry is done regularly. Here is Mara's Bio.
Merkez
Chinuch (Educational Director)
Camp Tavor’s educational program each summer is developed by the Merkez Chinuch prior to camp. The Merkez Chinuch works with counselors to help campers gain meaning from their session(s) at camp. Here is Oren's Bio.
Shaliach (Emissary from Israel)
Our
Shaliach spends two or more years with Camp Tavor getting to know
our campers and the cities they come from. During the summer the
Schaliach runs our Hebrew program and assists with the Madatz program.
During the remainder of the year he or she provides year-round
guidance for our kenim (youth groups) and mapilim. Here is Yaniv's
bio.
Counselors (Madrichim)
Our college-
aged madrichim, most of whom grew up at Camp Tavor,
bring out the interests and creativity of each camper building
a close community of friendship and respect. It’s not uncommon
to see counselors with older and younger campers playing and laughing
side-by-side, eating a meal together, or deep in discussion. Our
counselor-to-camper ratio is never more than 1 - 5 and often it
is closer to 1 - 3. Counselors sleep in the tents and cabins with
campers providing supervision and ensuring safety and security.
Waterfront/Pool Staff
Our waterfront and pool staff are trained and certified by the American Red Cross and other agencies. We follow the rules and regulations of the State of Michigan and the American Camping Association.
Medical Staff
Two medical staff live at camp each summer in our mirpa’ah (medical center). Often the two differ from session to session, but all are experienced licensed medical professionals who are accessible to campers and staff 24 hours a day. We consult with local physicians for care when necessary and have a hospital less than one mile away, in case of emergency.
Food Service Staff
Each summer former campers and hired professionals work together to both prepare meals and keep our dining facility clean, healthy and safe. Our staff members are selected based on their experience and desire to provide healthy kosher meals for our campers, and to adapt meals to meet special camper and staff eating restrictions. We have a vegetarian option for our community each summer.
